Over four decades ago Yorkshire Television produced a landmark documentary charting the amazing life of a modest music teacher from Scarborough, who went on to establish a unique place in the history of music.
Note about Eric Fenby OBE. 1906 - 1997
In his later years Delius became blind and severely disabled, unable to complete his life's work. In 1928 a music teacher and fellow Yorkshireman from Scarborough offered his services as an amanuensis to the blind and paralyzed composer. This was to allow a radiant Indian Summer in the final years at Grez.. Composing continued with the aid of Eric Fenby taking down the notes, offering his complete devotion to Delius. Fenby also enabled the completing, reshaping and promoting of so much of Delius' previous work. The story has been beautifully told in Ken Russell's iconic film still available on this channel.

Eric Fenby OBE was in his seventies when he recollected his time with the dying composer Frederick Delius. Together with the production team Eric Fenby returned to Grez-sur-Loing and the former home of Delius for the first time in over forty years.
Filmed on location in Scarborough, France and London, this filmic work of art was first screened on the British Independent television network in 1982.
