I think the most important thing about the TwinPlex is that they’re really a set-and-forget kind of a microphone. They’ve been good from the get-go, from the first time out. And that’s really what I want with these. Because someone is looking down your back and wants you out of there. They don’t have any time for audio until it sounds bad.

I’m Fritz Lang. I’m now a television mixer for a variety of freelance clients.

The challenges in audio for me, over the years, have pretty much been the same thing when it comes to lavaliers. Since they’re omni microphones, you’re getting so much of the room a lot of times. You have bounce back. You have phase problems.

And the big thing with these microphones that I’ve found, and my front-of-house mixers have found as well, but in particular on Inside the NFL, is when the guys are turning their heads and doing this kind of thing and talking, there were no phase issues. There were no frequency falloff issues. To not have that falloff was just like an amazing thing.

The flexibility of the cable and the relax of the cable is really the most important thing for the A2’s on the deck. Nobody has to fight with them. They don’t have to figure out how to wind them around things. They just go down. They dress nicely. Nobody’s putting tape on the cables. Nobody’s putting extra clips on the cables. They’re all having no issues whatsoever in placing microphones on people and getting the cables to lie flat.

I assume that they’ve been tugged more than once, especially with the NFL guys, because they have a tendency to just stand up and forget that they have a microphone on.
And I know the A2’s did their best to make sure that things didn’t get yanked, but there were more than several occasions when the microphone went off set with whatever the person was still attached to radio.
And I’d go “Oh man, please let these come back in one piece.” And I have the same five microphones and they’ve been great. I haven’t had any issues with them whatsoever.
