The Zaanse Schans is a popular tourist attraction and is free to visit. There are windmills to visit and various museums for which an entrance fee has to be paid. But there is much more to see at the Zaanse Schans than just windmills, such as the many unique historically decorated shops, which are free to enter. There is a cheese shop where you can taste dozens of cheeses or try on a few clogs in the clog shop, there is a soap factory, jewelery makers and various souvenir shops. Or take the ferry across the Zaan River and walk along the Zaan River and typical green wooden Zaan houses back to the train station. There is much to see and do at the Zaanse Schans. It is close to Amsterdam and easy to reach by train. Take the train from Amsterdam Central Station in the direction of Uitgeest to Zaandijk Zaanse Schans. The train journey takes 18 minutes to Zaandijk Zaanse Schans station and after a few minutes' walk you are at your destination, the direction is indicated.
