Manchester on Common Core -- 29 May 2013: More than 50 members of the public attended a meeting in Manchester and all voiced in opposition to the implementation of COMMON CORE. Exampled was a Washington Post article about 49 principals in New York State who say testing is causing students extreme anxiety. Personal data during the testing process is collected on students, parents political preferences, religion and medical information, and the wide distribution of sharing this data without parent knowledge or p[permission is all part of the program.
Ann Marie Banfield, (http://www.nhcornerstone.org/about/le...) in her testimony stated there is no working knowledge of a COMMON CORE program and the assessment test for such has caused significant problems with students. Many students spent much of their time reading and re-reading during questions for the test. The test and the curriculum are disconnected, she said. Either the test has to change or what they teach the kids to pass the test has to change. (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/a.... Ann Marie Banfield sourced everything she spoke of in her testimony at the meeting last evening saying the approach to COMMON CORE education is absolutely unprecedented at this time. Additionally, the cost to implement COMMON CORE will be at the expense of every NH taxpayer. Girard in closing said there is a rush to judgment here, and wants to know why people are working at break neck speed to impose this, is beyond him.
