Hello everyone and welcome back to Worldwide History Podcast again.After our holiday before,we now made our new video.On October 28 1895,Guangzhou’s policemen attack revolutionary men.Most of the revolutionaries has fled from Guangzhou but one of the men named Lu Haodong went into Guangzhou and went to the bookshop that had became their secret HQ he then takes the membership book that has been a record of all the members in the China Revive Society and he burned it then he was caught and executed by the Chinese police. Sun Yat Sen went to Kobe,Japan to run away and now the Revive China Society has its first martyrs.There were also posters that gave gifts of silver if they can capture Sun and worse he was banned from Hong Kong.

He went to the USA and Hawaii to find revolutionary members but it only attracted 1/2 dozen members and he couldn't get enough funds,but the most interesting thing was an invitation by the sun's medical professor D.r James Cantlie to visit him in London.Each night he dined with Cantlie but he never knew he was followed by Qing agents.

In fact the Qing agents had followed him in San Francisco.Cantlie’s house is just beside the Chinese Legation and they caught him on October 11th and put him to jail with Macartney his jailer.He tried to bribe the janitors by giving them money but it never worked.The Chinese legation has ordered a steamer and he’ll be executed he begs the housekeeper to send the message to Macartney and he sends it when he reads it he directly went in action.


He tries to find Sir Haliday Macartney but he never meets him. Macartney in fact was Sun’s jailer. He tried to go to the local police station but the middle night of Saturday where most people are talking about weird stories and dismissed him.He then went to the Foreign office,the officers said that they were worried that any intervention would lead Britain’s trade to endanger.
So Macartney hires a private detective to find Sun and then one employee gives Cantlie a message from Sun telling that Macartney was also having the same agent Cantlie has.Cantlie then leaks the story to the press with a lot of reporters crowding the Chinese Legation.After 12 days of detention Sun was walks out to a horde of reporters.His idea was buying land for poor people and he also got a Japanese botanist in London introducing him a new term Pan Asianism for asian countries unite to fight western powers.Japan has been a hotbed for Phillipine independence movement and a blackmarket of weapons.

So Sun used Tokyo to become a base for his revolution.They named themselves the Black Dragon Society.Sun’s contact was a wild Japanese explorer Miyazaki Although many Japanese ultranationalists wanted to strengthen China but as a puppet state.In fact these same ultranationalists will invade China after Sun’s death.But Sun was also in conflict with other reforms.In China there were a group of elites that proposed reforms and began to outnumber Sun’s Reform Society.Sun tried to make alliances with these reforms but they refused.
