Who is to blame for Inflation in Canada? With rising interest rates, will there be a recession in 2023. We often hear that governments are responsible for inflation, but consumer spending habits are just as much to blame.

Economic stimulus entered into consumer pockets and Canadians spent that money in spades, importing goods through Amazon and Shopify Drop Shipping, bogging down supply chains, and raising the cost of goods for everyone.

Consumers ordered Uber Eats, and subscribed to 5 different streaming platforms for at least a year. Corporations saw the chance to raise prices, and consumers were happy to oblige.

Once restrictions were lifted, Canadians flooded to airports for trips, and the people who stayed here went out for dinner a few nights a week. They bought new cars and cottages. They bought sneakers and designer clothing.

With consumer spending habits like these, what response does the Canadian economy have other than raising interest rates?

The government can't tell citizens how to spend their money, they can only stifle it through economic policy. The responsibility of consumer spending is the consumer's responsibility.
