How to Play Spider Solitaire [Winning Strategies]

The goal of Spider Solitaire is to arrange all the cards into eight foundation piles by building sequences of the same suit from king to ace in the tableau.

How to Set Up Spider Solitaire

To set up Spider Solitaire, deal the ten-column tableau. The first four columns have five facedown cards and once face-up card each, and the last six columns have four facedown cards and one face-up card each.

The remaining 50 cards are placed in a stockpile at the top left corner of the tableau. Leave space for eight foundation piles at the top of the tableau.

How to Play Spider Solitaire

1. The goal is to sequence cards by suit descending from king to ace in the tableau. Once a complete sequence is built, it is moved to a foundation pile.

2. All face-up cards are playable. You can move one card, or a sequence of cards, on top of another if it is one rank lower and the opposite color. However, you can only move sequences of the same suit between columns.

3. If you expose a facedown card in the tableau, turn it face up.

4. If you get stuck, use the stockpile to deal one face-up card into each column. To use the stockpile, every column must have at least one card in it. Once you’ve used all the stockpile cards, your stockpile is exhausted and you can only play with the cards in the tableau.

6. If you’ve emptied a column in the tableau, you can move any card or sequence of cards in the same suit to that column.

Once all the cards are moved from the tableau to the foundation piles, you win the game!
