(28 Sep 2014) The marriage of actor George Clooney and Lebanese lawyer Amal Alamuddin is creating a buzz in Beirut.
According to one city resident, it's a symbol of "pride."

Actor George Clooney and his new wife, human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, make the first public appearance in Venice after getting married.
They walk along the short pier outside the Hotel Amal, where they got married on Saturday evening, and board Clooney's water-taxi.
Thirty-six-year-old Alamuddin, a human rights lawyer, hails from the Druze village of Baakline, an hour outside of Beirut.
She left Lebanon as a young child and was raised in the United Kingdom.
Alamuddin met Clooney, 53, who is active in many political causes, through her work.
In Beirut, the wedding is being talked about in the press - and on the streets.
"It is a matter of pride that Lebanese are becoming known on the international side of course. Especially the females because you know how females are in our society," says Amir Alwan, in the neighbourhood of Hamra.
Meanwhile, in a cafe, Leila Abdullah is reflecting on the hi-profile marriage.
"George Clooney had this idea of never getting married and staying single. And then she came and changed his mind and changed all his expectations. That's what created a buzz and caused a bit of a shock," she says.
Back in Venice, a flotilla of photographers and cameramen follow the water-taxi carrying the newly-weds, as it navigates towards the Cipriani Hotel, where Clooney has been based during his stay.
Media have speculated that the couple will also have a civil ceremony on Monday.
