Skiers and riders of all ages gathered at Cochran’s Ski Area in Richmond on Friday night to watch the opening ceremony of the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.

Skier Ryan Cochran-Siegle — son of 1972 gold medalist Barbara Ann Cochran — was set to compete in the men's downhill final less than 12 hours later.

“Every time I drive up that little driveway and enter the parking lot and see the hill, it brings a smile to my face,” Cochran-Siegle told Vermont Public’s Mitch Wertlieb after his silver medal win at the Beijing Winter Games in 2022.

“It's a special place, and I just want to do what I can to keep this going, so that I think the next generation of skiers can have similar dreams that I grew up with.”
