To add a download link or button to WordPress, you need to start by getting a URL leading to the downloadable file. The easiest way to do this is to upload the file to your WordPress site. The Media Library is used mostly for images, but can store PDFs, MP3s, and zip files too.

Once you've uploaded the file to the Media Library, you'll have a URL you can copy that points to the file. The next step is to add a link into the post (or page).

You can add the download link just like a regular link, but instead of entering in a webpage address, you'll paste the URL you copied that points to the download.

Zip files will download automatically. Most other file types like images and PDFs will open in the browser window instead. Visitors will need to right-click and choose the "Save as..." option. Or, you can add the "download" link attribute by editing the link's HTML directly. This works in most browsers and allows visitors to click once on the link to start a download automatically.

Adding download buttons is just as easy as creating download links. All you need to do is select the button block (available with the Gutenberg editor). You'll enter the file's URL the same way as you did with the plain link and then you can enter in the text that shows on the button.

Once you understand how download links work, you can repeat this process and add as many download buttons to WordPress as you like.
