Extraordinary Process of American Bluebird Eggs Hatching

Описание к видео Extraordinary Process of American Bluebird Eggs Hatching

All four of these Eastern Bluebird eggs hatch in Kentucky, USA. Watch how each chick uses a tiny ‘egg tooth’ to break through its shell and then wriggle free, with a little help from its mother.

These wonderful blue-coloured eggs belong to the Eastern Bluebird, predominately located across the east coast of the USA. The mother intubated her four eggs for 14 days before they started to hatch. The process started with each chick creating a small hole in its shell called a ‘pip’ by using a small projection on its beak called an ‘egg tooth’. Once the ‘pip’ is created, the chick chips away at the shell until an opening occurs. It will then rotate around until it is free. It is common for the chick to take regular breaks during this process.
