Balesh Dhankhar, a once-respected Indian community leader, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the sexual assault of five South Korean women in Sydney, Australia.

Described by the court as "premeditated and elaborately executed," his crimes involved using fake job ads to lure victims, after which he drugged them and recorded the assaults.

The jury was told Dhankhar had a “particular tendency” to record intimate images and videos of unconscious Asian and Korean women, and a particular sexual interest in them as well. He also meticulously documented his attacks in an Excel spreadsheet, ranking victims based on their looks and vulnerability.

Despite maintaining a public image as a successful IT consultant and community leader, who was the spokesperson for the Hindu Council of Australia and founded the Australian branch of the Overseas Friends of BJP - voluntary organisations present in foreign countries operating under the foreign affairs department of India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, his actions revealed a disturbing predatory nature. A 2023 jury found him guilty of 39 offences, including 13 counts of sexual assault.
