Power System Stability is a major issue under the contingency condition in a restructured environment. Voltage stability can be maintained by enhancing the maximum loadability. Continuation Power Flow (CPF) is the conventional method for computing the maximum loadability. FACTS devices assist in maximizing the power flow by increasing the power transfer capability of a long transmission line to reduce the real power losses and to improve the voltage stability of the system. TCSC is one among the FACTS devices which offer faster and smooth response during contingency condition. SVC is capable of maintaining voltage within the operating limits under normal and network outage conditions.

This Matlab design deals with the improvement of Maximum Loadability (ML) during a single contingency. It is carried out by optimal placement and settings of multi-type Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices like Static Var Compensator (SVC), Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) and Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) in the transmission network. The devices are located in the system by using Contingency Severity Index (CSI) and Fast Voltage Stability Index (FVSI) respectively which facilitates the enhancement of socio-economic benefits by minimizing the Installation Cost (IC) of FACTS devices and overloading. MATLAB software is used to test the design. In order to validate the proposed approach, the problem is simulated using the IEEE 30 bus system and the solution is optimized by using Differential Evolution (DE).
