Their joint ticket was dismissed and ridiculed as the coalition of the accused. But Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto rode the ICC wave to clinch victory in the hotly contested and disputed election of March 4th 2013. When the Supreme Court upheld the election of Uhuru Kenyatta as President and William Ruto as his Deputy. The Deputy President was overcome by emotion even shedding tears in church. Nine months on, the Deputy President describes their victory as a miracle. The nascent government has seen a mixed bag of fortunes, scoring highly on infrastructure development, struggling with industrial unrest and a brush with a largely robust media unwilling to be put down by an edgy executive.
