Burro bananas are thicker than typical grocery store Chiquita bananas also known as Cavendish bananas. I have bought burro bananas several times and had difficulty getting them to ripen. In fact this is the first time I have ever purchased burro bananas and had them ripen up well enough to eat. Some people eat them cooked like plantains while they are still unripe, Especially in South America. There are many different varieties of bananas and types of bananas which are less common in American grocery stores.
