Tram services resumed in Sarajevo on Monday (25/9) for the first
time in almost six months. The official operation of the trams
signals the beginning of a return to normality in the Bosnian
capital, after months of shelling and sniping. The trams, which
have been considered an unofficial sign of peace in Sarajevo,
began ferrying people between two of the city's main suburbs. They
have yet to run into the centre of the capital because of the risk
that they would be prime targets for snipers still operating in
the area. In addition, some tramlines remain damaged from the
fighting.
