This Unique Vehicle is a GAMECHANGER in Punjab Floods
The ATOR N1200 is an amphibious all-terrain specialist mobility vehicle used by the Indian Army, designed for extreme mobility in challenging environments including floods, snow, deserts, and dense forests. It was notably deployed for rescue operations during recent floods in Punjab, demonstrating its capability to navigate deep water and inaccessible areas.
Key features and capabilities:
Amphibious Operation: Fully amphibious, able to travel over land, water, ice, snow, marshes, and sand, with the ability to break through ice and swim before returning to land.
Payload and Capacity: Carries up to 1,200 kg of payload or nine people (eight passengers plus a driver), with a towing capacity of 2,350 kg.
Power: Powered by a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder diesel engine producing 55 bhp and 190 Nm torque, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Dimensions: About 3.98 m long, 2.57 m wide, and 2.846 m high.
Endurance: 232 litre fuel tank (with auxiliary), operational range up to 61 hours.
Extreme Weather Certified: Operates in temperatures from –40°C to +45°C, and is resilient in fog, storms, and snowstorms.
Safety & Construction: Docol high-strength steel frame, zinc-coated for longevity, optionally armored with Kevlar or composite panels, integrated ROPS (roll-over protection system).
Manufacturing & Deployment:
Built by JSW Gecko Motors Private Limited, in collaboration with UK-based Copato (based on the SHERP N1200 platform).
First major Indian Army induction: 96 units delivered under a Rs 250 crore contract in 2024, now used by military and disaster response agencies.
As of August 2025, deployed in Punjab floods for rescue and relief, aiding civil authorities, SDRF, NDRF, alongside the Indian Army.
