What is Group Discussion?
A group discussion occurs when a group of individuals gathers to discuss a specific topic. Many recruiters use group discussions (GD) to assess a candidate's communication, leadership, and topic understanding, among other things. There are two different sorts of GD that assess a candidate's lateral thinking. It is a brief case study and group activity. Group discussion rounds are frequently seen as difficult, although they are not if specific measures are followed.

The general discussion (GD) is a session during which the candidate's talents, such as leadership, communication, social and behavioral skills, courtesy, teamwork, listening skills, general awareness, self-assurance, and problem-solving ability, are examined.

The Group Discussion usually follows the admission test for a professional degree. The group discussion may be the first or last phase in the recruiting process, depending on the company or organization.

The group discussion does not have to take place at the table. As long as everyone can see each other's faces, any seating arrangement is OK. It's not just a standard conversation; it's also a discussion based on facts and information.

A group discussion is a discussion among participants regarding a certain topic. Organizations and educational institutions regularly use group discussions as part of their selection process. Candidates discuss the allotted topic in order to convey facts, points of view, and conclusions. Employers use this strategy to assess and evaluate applicants' soft skills.

Factual Group Discussions: These are real-world discussions that assess a candidate's ability to process information and analyze socioeconomic or everyday challenges.

Opinion-Based Group Discussion: Assess applicants' ability to explain their opinions and points of view. These group discussions tend to be more about opinions than facts.

Case study-based group discussions: These dialogues are modeled after real-world scenarios. The panelists present the group with the specifics of a hypothetical problem, and the group must then work together to handle it.

Abstract Group Discussion: Interviewers use them to assess if a candidate can approach the issue with creativity and lateral thinking.

Tip: Analyzing the issue and suggesting ideas or subtopics that have not been discussed by the other applicants is one approach for remaining interested in the conversation.
