A 100-1 outsider, the French-bred Mon Mome, ridden by Liam Treadwell, won the race by 12 lengths from the previous year's winner Comply or Die - he was the longest-priced winner of the famous race since Foinavon in 1967.

Mon Mome was trained by Venetia Williams and owned by former international bridge player Vida Bingham. He was ridden by Liam Treadwell, who was tragically found dead in 2020 after a battle with depression. A hugely talented jockey and a thoroughly likeable man, Treadwell rode more than 300 winners.
