Weight loss pills & supplements have become increasingly popular in recent years. This appeals to many overweight people who want to shed those stubborn extra pounds. Many of these people pose this question to themselves "why would I spend months & even years busting my butt in the gym & dieting, if I can take a pill or supplement that will get me those results much faster?"The truth is, these supplements come with a LOT of side effects. First off, one of the major downsides with weight loss pills like Ozempic is that it causes such a large amount of weight loss so rapidly, that your body has no choice but to eat away at muscle tissue. Even if you've never lifted weights before, losing muscle is NOT what we want to have happen. Loss of muscle mass, especially in large amounts, slows down our metabolism & can wreck our overall metabolic health. Increased muscle mass helps to keep our basic metabolic rate(calories burned at rest) higher, and makes it harder to store carbs as fat. In addition, adequate muscle mass helps keep strong bones & adequate stability as we're older, helping to prevent bone fractures/breaks from falls. Is it worth it if you lose 30 pounds, but over half of that comes from muscle? Gastroparesis is a legit problem with weight loss supplements. It's called stomach paralysis for a reason.It causes the movement of food from the stomach to the small intestine to be greatly delayed, reducing appetite. However, many people's appetite get suppressed so greatly, they can hardly eat much food at all, further causing more potential weight & muscle lOSS. I promise you, strict weight loss is NOT going to make you look better. In fact, you will look worse. Unless you're obese, the much better & rewarding option in the long run is to start weight training at least 3x per week with proper intensity & progressive overload, eat high amounts of protein (at least 0.8 grams/lb of bodyweight), and eat in a 500 calorie deficit per day. This will create one pound of weight loss per week. Will the weight loss process take much longer? Yes. BUT, you will be body recomling the right way.
