“The listing of Maynilad Water Services on the Philippine Stock Exchange is a sign of confidence in our markets and in our people. When Maynilad began operations more than two decades ago, the challenge of bringing clean and reliable water to every home in the West Zone of Metro Manila was clear. So, what started out as a concession has since evolved into a partnership that continues to serve millions of Filipinos every day,” stated President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. when he led the bell-ringing ceremony to mark the official public listing of Maynilad Water Services., Inc. held at the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), Inc. in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig City.

According to the PSE, ‘public listing’ means offering or selling shares of a private company to the public. The first time securities are made available for sale to the public is called an Initial Public Offering (IPO).

“With its Initial Public Offering, Maynilad welcomes scrutiny and accountability. And in doing so, Maynilad can expand our capital markets and our shared belief that private enterprise can serve the public good. This also sends a message that transparency is a standard that all our institutions must abide by,” the President said in his keynote message.

Apart from its IPO, Maynilad has sustainability programs, such as a climate-resilient water system, investments in renewable energy, waste management and watershed protection, which align with the government’s goal of building an adaptable economy guided by sound governance.

“Truly, Maynilad’s public listing signals what I have been telling the world: that the Philippines is open, ready, and eager to do business with you,” he expressed, reassuring partners such as Maynilad that the government will always support their initiatives.

“As we face the many challenges ahead, from climate change to the rebuilding of public trust, may this day remind us that reform is built on work done with honesty. Because I believe that when we do things with purpose and excellence, progress will flow just like water that is steady and life-giving,” President Marcos Jr. ended in his message.

Maynilad, one of the country’s leading water providers, launched its IPO to support infrastructure development and expand services. This was the second-largest IPO and one of the PSE’s most anticipated listings, marking a major milestone for the utilities sector.
