You will learn how to answer some common questions in doctoral interviews. This is really geared towards those that are interested in a research career and would like to do research in a university or institute.

Also, this likely makes the most amount of sense for those that are interested in doing research in the social sciences, but it also applies to those that are interested in basic sciences too.

I like the behavioral responses to interviews, where you actually tell real stories about yourself and why you want to do something.

You will almost certainly be asked:

Why this university or program?

What you want to be able to do is actually tell your reason for wanting to do a doctorate. We typically do not like it when people do a doctoral program because of teaching, monetary, or career advancement reasons. Rather, you should talk about the research interests of the faculty and the deep desire to solve a particular problem. We are looking for whether you did your homework.

How would you like to work with and why?

It is often easier to match research interests if you know who you want to work with or have a mentorship with.

What should we pick you over other candidates?

In other words, what are your special skills and interests above other candidates that we see. Most people are pretty amazing that are applying so you need to be aware that your competition is steep.

Where do you see yourself after you finish your PhD?

What we are looking for is whether you are interested in doing research as a career, rather than just to leave academia.

David Maslach is a research professor of entrepreneurship, innovation, and business strategy, I discuss topics, such as behavioral science, strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and apply these to my new peer proofreading and editing platform. Topics include the sharing economy, altruism, investing in technology, starting a business, and bounded rationality. My favorite videos pertain to incentives, goal setting, and learning from failure to drive behaviors such as weight loss, stopping telemarketers, creating novel technologies, and creating new movements.

https://r3ciprocity.com: Peer proofreading and editing platform

A new platform where you can earn credits by editing other people's documents. Use these credits to have your own work edited. If you do a good enough job, you can convert these credits to money.

The goal of the platform is to get people to 'pay it forward' and help other people out by creating incentives for people to give back.
