Thanks to FujiFilm and Fujinon for providing us with the Fujinon Techno-Stabi TS-X 1440 Binoculars. A good pair of binoculars can make all the difference when fishing; these are an absolute game-changer. Their techno-stabilization technology ensures a steady view, even when the boat is rocking. Without these binoculars, we would have spent much more time searching for fish—or might not have found them. They can be the deciding factor whether you’re offshore or inshore fishing. We already owned our own pairs of these binoculars and have used them for years, and when we saw their booth at a trade show in Florida, they gave us some new ones!
Another big thanks to @OkumaFishingUSA. We have been proudly endorsing Okuma for years because they make epic products. In this video, you see the Okuma Makaira 50WII while tuna fishing. Our charter service, Stoked On Fishing Charters, has landed over 600 bluefin tuna using these reels, and they last multiple seasons with extended use. If you’re serious about fishing, these reels are built to perform.

Video Description:
We invited Michael from Tackle2thePeople and Rich from Fishaholic Fishing to experience the best of California fishing, and they didn’t hesitate to join us. Over the course of 96 hours, we targeted iconic species like Pacific bluefin tuna using live mackerel, spreader bars, and a helium balloon kite rig with a flying fish as bait.
The West Coast rail rod technique for fighting tuna—a method relying on leverage rather than traditional belts—was a new experience for our guests.
Kayak fishing in the harbor produced spotted bay bass and halibut, while inshore trips focused on calico and sand bass. A detour to the San Gabriel River Trail for urban aqueduct fishing revealed unexpected wildlife, including a family of sea turtles. We target Striped Bass, Carp, and anything els we can catch.
Preserving fish quality was a priority, with demonstrations on gilling, gutting, and packing the cavity with ice. Parker, the deckhand and fish monger from Stoked On Fishing Charters, gave a step-by-step tutorial on filleting tuna with precision to ensure nothing went to waste.
The trip culminated in a catch, clean, and cook session featuring fresh tuna. Chef Allen at the Royal Hen on Balboa Island transformed the catch into a variety of gourmet dishes, capping off an incredible experience.
But Fishaholic showed his true colors—he just couldn’t stop fishing. With only two hours left before his flight, we headed back out and landed six different species, risking it all to squeeze in more action. The adventure ended with a second catch-and-cook session, this time sushi-style, as a perfect finale for an unforgettable trip.
This journey celebrated California’s diverse fisheries, practical fishing techniques, and the shared passion of anglers coming together for an incredible adventure.
