The Goa tourism department has issued a set of guidelines to protect the privacy and safety of travelers and prevent them from being cheated by dishonest individuals. According to the guidelines, tourists should not take selfies or photographs of other tourists without their permission, particularly while they are sunbathing or swimming in the sea. Taking selfies at dangerous locations such as sea rocks and steep cliffs is also prohibited to prevent accidents.

In addition to these guidelines, the state tourism department has urged visitors to the coastal state to refrain from damaging heritage sites by scribbling graffiti or disfiguring monuments. Travelers are also advised not to hire illegal private taxis and instead opt for metered fares to avoid being overcharged. Booking accommodations with legally registered hotels/villas or housing facilities is also recommended.

Consuming alcohol in open areas like beaches is prohibited and punishable by law, but drinking responsibly inside licensed premises such as restaurants and hotels is permitted. It is also recommended that tourists avoid illegal touts or agents when booking water sports and river cruises.

Lastly, cooking food in open areas is strictly prohibited, and violators may be fined up to INR 50,000.
