La Sora, (Porzana carolina) que pertenece a la familia Rallidae, es un pequeño pájaro que completa migraciones impresionantes desde sus áreas reproductivas en Norteamerica, para pasar el invierno en el Caribe, Centro y Sur América! Cada cierto tiempo, tenemos la suerte de encontrarla en plena ciudad de Quito, en los predios del Jardín Botánico, en este caso en abril de 2022. Las Soras Se alimentan de semillas acuáticas y otras materias vegetales, además de invertebrados variados. Los plumajes entre el macho y la hembra son bastante similares, sin embargo el individuo del video muestra bastante negro en la cara y pecho, haciendo probable que se trate de un macho!

The Sora (Porzana carolina), a member of the Rallidae family, is a small bird that undertakes impressive migrations from its breeding grounds in North America to spend the winter in the Caribbean, Central, and South America! From time to time, we are lucky enough to find it right in the middle of Quito, within the grounds of the Botanical Garden—like in this case, in April 2022.

Soras feed on aquatic seeds and other plant matter, as well as a variety of invertebrates. The plumage of males and females is quite similar; however, the individual in this video shows a lot of black on the face and chest, making it likely to be a male!
