Cervical Cancer में Radiation Therapy Planning: Real Hospital Demo! | Dr Praveen Kammar, Mumbai
What Is the Role of a Treatment Planning System (TPS)?
Dr. Ajay explains how CT scan data is transferred into the Treatment Planning System, a fully computerized platform used to design the radiation plan. This step is essential to map the tumor and surrounding areas accurately before treatment begins.
How Do Oncologists Mark Tumors in Radiotherapy?
Watch how the tumor (cervix) and lymph node regions are marked for accurate dose delivery. Dr. Ajay demonstrates how tumor contouring helps target disease spread areas and improve treatment precision for Carcinoma of the Cervix.
Why Are Critical Organs Marked Separately?
Learn how organs like the urinary bladder, rectum, and bowel loops are outlined to protect them from radiation exposure. Different colors are used for differentiation, helping to define the Planning Target Volume (PTV) clearly for safe and effective treatment.
What Is the Role of the Medical Physicist?
After contouring, the plan is sent to the Medical Physicist team, who decide the radiation dose, beam arrangement, and delivery technique such as 3D CRT, IMRT, or RapidArc. For example, Stage 2B Cervical Cancer is typically treated with 50 Gray over 25 sessions in 5 weeks.
How Long Does the Radiation Planning Process Take?
The complete planning process takes around 4–5 days to finalize. This ensures the tumor receives the maximum dose while minimizing exposure to normal tissues, resulting in safer and more effective outcomes.
