Building Geodesic domes with angle iron

I'm often asked about using standard stock metal to build domes, sometimes timber won't work in a particular situation or maybe people just prefer to work in metal. the problem with domes are you need custom angles on the stock material that add up to the dihedral angles on a dome, they are different for pretty much every size/type so using standard stock material can have cost benefits as long as you can fix the dihedral issue.

I would recommend doing all the welding etc to make the frames then having the steel galvanised so it won't rust.
