'Cold Front' moving south in Texas Today; Helene heading toward Florida

Описание к видео 'Cold Front' moving south in Texas Today; Helene heading toward Florida

A cold front, mostly in name only, has moved through the northern third of Texas early this morning. Scattered storms created a ruckus in the D/FW Metroplex with a brief intensification into hailers, but those storms have mostly taken their medicine and settled down.

This morning, we will see the opportunity for isolated to scattered storms to continue in Central Texas, southern North Texas, and East Texas. Our cold-front-in-name-only will bring light northerly winds and some modest cool-down to the northern two-thirds of Texas this afternoon.

The front will move into Southeast Texas, the Golden Triangle, and the Coastal Plains late this afternoon. With the front's arrival, we may see an uptick in thunderstorm coverage and intensity in those regions. Spotty damaging winds and hail will be possible. That activity will move off the coast after 8 p.m. Storms across South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley will be possible this evening into early Thursday morning.

This morning, Tropical Storm Helene is strengthening not far southeast of Cancun, Mexico. Maximum sustained winds are up to 65 MPH, and the minimum central pressure is down to 985 millibars. At least steady intensification is expected today as the soon-to-be hurricane moves north near the Yucatan Peninsula and into the Gulf of Mexico.

Rapid strengthening is likely tonight and on Thursday as the impending major #hurricane accelerates toward the Florida Big Bend and Florida West Coast. Nothing good will come of a category 3 or 4 hurricane slamming into the Big Bend of Florida.

Like Ike in 2008, #Helene will come a vast hurricane with an expansive wind field. Strong winds and storm surge are likely to extend at least two hundred miles east of the landfall location, with strong winds to the west. No impacts to Texas are expected besides some cloud cover in the Ark-La-Tex on Friday and Saturday. Maybe a shower or two.

Temperatures will remain warm across Texas over the next five days. Highs will generally be in the 80s to about 90 across the northern two-thirds of Texas, with 90s in the southern third of the state. El Paso in the Borderland will stay hot with middle to upper 90s; coming dangerously close to 100 degrees some days. The same story will go for South Texas by the weekend.
