A joint Health and Human Services Public Safety Committee hearing was held on Thursday. Officials discussed updates and recommendations on the FY20 budget. Key topics included possible funding for the Adult Drug Court, the Mental Health Court, and the Exchange and Supervised Visitation Center.
For the Adult Drug Court, officials say they need funding for additional resources due to the growing opioid epidemic- which has required changes in the treatment participants need and the length of time they need to be enrolled in the program.
Then there's the Mental Health Court, which officials say is a way to serve people who do not necessarily need to be in jail, but rather need to address mental and behavioral health problems.
The recommended funding for the Monitored Exchange and Supervised Visitation Center totals up to about $175 thousand, which officials say will go towards expanding the hours of operation and adding more security.
