Homicide Squad detectives have released CCTV footage today of a man they are hoping to identify as part of the investigation into the death of David Dick in Doncaster last Friday.

David, a 36-year-old Doncaster man, was brutally attacked at a Doncaster Road shopping centre about 6am on 3 February.

Members of the public located him injured near a lift lobby at the property at about 6.10am and called triple zero (000).

David suffered head injuries and died at the scene.

Detectives have obtained CCTV footage from the centre from the previous day (2 February) which shows a man in the same location around the same time as the incident on Friday.

Investigators believe the footage indicates that the suspect is likely to have targeted David.

At this stage there is no known motive for the vicious attack, with David struck without warning as he exited the lift.

The man then fled down a fire exit before heading south from the car park in the direction of Doncaster Road.

Investigators believe the offender is likely to have injured his hand during the attack and may have then sought medical treatment.

Police have released CCTV and still images of a man they wish to identify and are appealing for anyone who recognises this man to come forward.

The man is described as being perceived to be of Caucasian appearance, aged in his 30s, about 176cm tall with a solid build and mousy brown hair.

Footage from the Thursday shows him wearing a grey hooded jumper, tracksuit pants and runners, and he was carrying an item with a long yellow cover.

The man is believed to have been in the vicinity of the car parks at the shopping centre between 5.45am and 6.10am on Thursday, 2 February and again during the same time on Friday, 3 February.

Detectives have also released an image of David in the hope someone can provide further information on his movements on the Thursday and Friday.

Detective Inspector Michael Hughes said there was someone out there who knew what had happened to David.

“This was an incredibly brutal attack and David’s family is devastated by his death,” he said.

“We’re keen to speak to anyone who recognises the man shown in the footage and has information about his movements in the lead up to the fatal attack.”
