Jiaxing University is a provincial college with a long history and profound cultural heritage. One of the predecessors of the school, Zhejiang Economic College, originated in 1914. In the following hundred years, the school changed its location and name several times. It was successively affiliated with the Ministry of Heavy Industry, the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry, and China Nonferrous Metals Industry Corporation. It was known as the "cradle" of economic management talents in China's nonferrous industry. In 2000, it merged with Jiaxing College to form Jiaxing College. Subsequently, Pinghu Normal School, Jiaxing Health School, Zhejiang Accounting School and Jiaxing Grain Cadre School were successively merged into Jiaxing College. In November 2023, the Ministry of Education agreed to rename Jiaxing College as Jiaxing University.
The school is located in Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, which is located in the southeast coast and the center of the Yangtze River Delta. It has unique location advantages and active economic development. It is the starting point of the Chinese revolutionary red ship, the birthplace of Jiangnan culture, the frontier position of connecting Shanghai and integrating into the Yangtze River Delta, the permanent venue of the World Internet Conference, and the pioneer of promoting coordinated urban and rural development. It is accelerating the construction of an important central city in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration, and strives to take the lead in promoting common prosperity and Chinese-style modernization.
The school has two campuses, Lianglin and Pinghu, covering an area of more than 1,660 acres and a building area of 610,000 square meters. The school is a master's degree-granting institution with more than 18,700 full-time undergraduates, postgraduates and international students, and more than 11,700 undergraduates in academic continuing education.
The school provides undergraduate and Chinese language programs for international students. Undergraduate programs offer popular majors such as business administration, civil engineering, international economics and trade, computer science and technology, and Chinese language and literature.
