In a tragic incident, a Redbird Airways Beechcraft C90 air ambulance flying from Ranchi to Delhi crashed in Chatra district, Jharkhand, on February 23, shortly after takeoff. All seven people onboard—including patient Sanjay Kumar, medical staff, attendants, and two pilots—lost their lives. The aircraft lost radar contact around 7:34 PM, approximately 100 nautical miles southeast of Varanasi, after reporting weather deviations to Kolkata ATC. Rescue teams from the district administration have reached the site, and an AAIB investigation is underway. The Council of Indian Aviation expressed deep concern, calling it a critical medical evacuation mission and pledging full support for aviation safety.
