Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced a Rs 17,000 crore share buyback, wherein 4.1 Crore shares will be acquired at Rs 4,150 per share, representing a premium of 22% over the current price of 3,400.

Approximately 0.6 Crore shares, equivalent to 15% of the buyback, are reserved for small shareholders with holdings valued below Rs 2 lakh on the yet-to-be-announced record date.

Small shareholders held 4.31% (16.44 Crore) of the company's total paid-up capital as of March 2023. Hence, the eligibility ratio for the retail category would be 3.74%.

In previous TCS buybacks in 2017, 2018, and 2020, the acceptance ratio for retail investors was 100%, but it decreased to around 20% in 2022
The exact number of eligible shareholders on the record date will be detailed in the forthcoming letter of offer, expected within two weeks after the record date.
