Roy Buchanans razor edge guitar tone has always been one of my favourites.

Don Mare got to sit down with Roy's legendary Telecaster guitar and was able to check all the ins & outs of this axe, and discovered the secret tone ingredient was a faulty bridge pickup.

I bought a set of Don's Nancy pickups a couple of years ago and installed them in my very own Nancy telecaster project.

A while ago, I bought a Japanese Stratocaster, that - luck had it - seemed to have not one but two faulty pickups, just like Roy's bridge pickup.

I did a sound test/clip with a 5 watt tube amp (based on a Fender Tweed circuit design) and this Japanese stratocaster, using neck, middle and bridge pickup. To get Roy's tone, you also need reverb so i tried a Tube Amp Doctor Fender Reverb clone and added it to the mix.

See if you can recognize some Roy/Nancy tone.
Of course, Roy's chops won't be found here :).
