Deep beneath the sea, in one of the loneliest places on the planet, Shell Prelude will be connected to a critical network made up of Christmas trees, manifolds and flow lines, all connected to giant anchor piles. Their role, to control the flow of gas.

The 488-metre-long hull of Shell Prelude floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility has been floated out of the dry dock at the Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) yard in Geoje, South Korea, where the facility is currently under construction. Shell Prelude FLNG Project is the largest floating facility ever built. It unlocks new energy resources offshore and produces approximately 3.6 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per annum to meet growing demand.

It will provide liquefied natural gas for customers around the world and generate cash flow that will help drive the performance of Shell’s Integrated Gas business. The safe and reliable start-up of Prelude’s operations will be the project team’s focus throughout the next phase.
