Evie Ward will give a short talk on Moki Cherry’s life and art, followed by an informal conversation in the gallery with and about Moki’s work exhibited there. The talk will be held in English.

Evie Ward is a writer and researcher from and based in London. She recently wrote a biographical essay about Moki Cherry for the Corbett Vs Dempsey book Communicate, How?

After seeing Moki Cherry’s exhibition at Moderna Museet in Stockholm in 2016, Evie wrote her MA dissertation about Moki’s textile appliqué tapestries in the different contexts of the home, stage, and art space. Since 2018, she has assisted Naima Karlsson, the granddaughter of Don and Moki Cherry, in archival and research work for the Estate of Moki Cherry.

Evie’s recent writing projects include reading and writing live subtitles for a performance for CEREBELLUM with Florence Peake, Zara Joan Miller and Amy Dickson (which she programmed in collaboration with Zara Joan Miller), reading short stories and poems in parallel with cellist Ute Kanngießer for a live performance at Cafe OTO, and exhibiting a site-specific poem as part of the group exhibition, ’Like A Sieve’, at Kupfer Project Space. Evie is currently working on a book collaboration of interwoven poems & drawings with Corinne Bernard.

This talk is one of the events that are a part of Bergen Kunsthall’s exhibition File Under Freedom, on view February 5 – March 27, 2022.
