Volunteer created video about the Enlighten Mission's advocacy work for the indigenous Irula people of Tamil Nadu.

Traditionally forest dwellers, the Irula have been marginalized as government regulations made their way of life hunting in the forest illegal and took away their land. They now live on the outskirts of villages, many working long hours making bricks or other manual labor. Some are even modern day slaves working as bonded laborers.

As they struggle to survive, their culture is dying--their traditional song and dance, knowledge of medicinal herbs, and expertise in snake and rat catching become lost with the new generation. The goal is to help improve their quality of life while maintaining their cultural heritage.

Enlighten Mission helps communities become registered so that they have voting rights, education, health insurance and access to other government schemes like land allotment and old age pension.
