this is the first part of the process design series. in which we will discuss the Design condition or design criteria,
Design criteria are applicable for both feasibility studies and pre-project studies.

First, we will discuss - Pressure,

the Design pressure establishes the basis for the design of a vessel. Vessel experience internal and external pressure during operation.
There is some difference in vessel operating pressure and design pressure.

For Example for
0 to 10 Bar operating pressure vessel generally designed at Maximum operating pressure + 1 Bar Margin.
Similarly, you can see other ranges as well.

Now we will see for Vacuum condition, If Vessels subject to vacuum during operation shall be designed for the

Maximum external operating pressure Plus a margin of 0.15 bar.

if the internal vessel pressure is 0.35 bar or less, then the vessel will be designed for Full Vacuum condition,

now the question arises, what is Full vacuum condition,

Full Vacuum condition of the pressure vessel defined in ASME.

Internal absolute pressure = 0 P s i
External absolute pressure on the vessel = 15 P s i

This is the nameplate for the Pressure vessel Designed at FV condition.
