As part of our project "from forest to home", the time has come to show you how we installed our fantastic slate roof last summer. Slate is durable and beautiful, and has a low impact on the enviroment. We bought used slate stones from 1947, and we are pretty sure they will last for at least 100 years on our house.

We are Olivia and Sjur, and we are building our own home in the Åsgård farm in the small village of Granberget in Engerdal County, Norway. Sjur's grandparents were the first homesteaders to move to the village in 1939. They soon broke ground, bred farm animals, and built houses. In the first small house, Sjur's father and his four siblings were born and raised.

Now we need to build a new house for ourselves. We want to use traditional building techniques and materials. It's also important for us to reuse and build with as small a footprint as possible on the environment. A part of this house will be the old original log house from my grandparents. We want to share as much of the building process with you as we can.
