The heavy duty steel wood and aluminum picnic table (patio table or garden table if you prefer) begins construction in this video - PART 1 or 2. to say that it is heavy duty is an understatement! Made out out 5/8" thick steel plate with welded and bolted construction, the entire assembly is at the very Least HEAVY!

my wife wanted a new picnic table and requested that i use the 5/8" thick plate that had been sitting in the yard by the waterjet room for over a year! so i had little choice but to comply!

the waterjet cutting alone was 12 hours of continuous cutting... all in all the entire project took a week start to finish!

in this video i show the waterjet cutting, the though process behind tab and slot construction in steel weldments (yes that's a word), the welding process that leaves the exposed visible surfaces free of visible welds and the finished parts being dropped off at the powder coater.

Part 2 will cover all of the other processes and show the finished table along with a few of the issues that had to be resolved.
