Описание к видео PPEP PHDC Micro Enterprise Development in Southern Arizona - KUAT ARIZONA ILLUSTRATED 7-2 -1992

KUAT Arizona Illustrated – July 2, 1992 Segment
The program spotlighted PPEP PHDC’s Micro Enterprise Development initiative in Southern Arizona, led by Dr. John D. Arnold, CEO of PPEP, Inc. The segment emphasized the transformative impact of microloans and technical assistance provided to underserved entrepreneurs—particularly in rural and border communities. Through Portable Practical Educational Preparation (PPEP) and its affiliate PPEP Microbusiness & Housing Development Corporation (PMHDC), small business owners gained access to capital, mentorship, and training that traditional banks often denied them.

Key Benefits Highlighted
Empowered low-income and minority entrepreneurs to launch and sustain businesses
Stimulated local economies by creating jobs and fostering self-sufficiency
Strengthened community resilience through inclusive economic development

Dr. Arnold’s vision, rooted in improving rural life, was portrayed as a driving force behind the program’s success. The segment captured real stories of individuals whose lives were uplifted through PPEP’s support, reinforcing the value of microenterprise as a tool for social and economic change.

PPEP, Inc. was founded in 1967 by Dr. John David Arnold aboard a 1957 Chevy bus named “La Tortuga (tortoise)” with a $19,000 grant from the Tucson Committee for Economic Opportunity, with the vision and conviction to “Improve the quality of rural life.” Five decades later PPEP remains dedicated to carrying out the dreams of its first Bracero migrant farm workers for a better way of life, while also investing in many other programs that help lift struggling communities and individuals out of poverty. PPEP has been able to flourish and grow into a robust, multi-service organization, with local, regional and international reach.

Today PPEP’s professional and dedicated staff provides programs and services related to employment and training, human services, alternative charter high schools, affordable housing, micro-business lending, services to the development disabled, and international programs. You will learn more about the amazing work PPEP undertakes for our communities, and about the key milestones and achievements it has attained over the last 58 years, we invite you to continue the journey alongside us as La Tortuga continues rolling into the future and see how this is being accomplished.
