Meet Officer K9 Kozak! I am so honored to have Wisconsin's newest, and first four-legged, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force officer NAMED AFTER ME! I mean, what an honor!

Isn't he so adorable?

Don't underestimate that cute face though, Kozak's unique job is to sniff out and locate electronic devices that may be hiding crucial evidence.

Officers have shared with me that when they search for evidence, there is a nagging feeling that they missed something. It is so simple to hide a small device.

Kozak has already found additional, and critical, evidence on a second search.
He is one of just a handful dogs in the US who do this important work.

Alicia's Law helped to make Kozak a possible addition to the WI ICAC Task Force team. Alicia's Law funds all of Kozak's care expenses. He was trained by Jordan Detection K9 and donated to the Wisconsin ICAC Task Force by Neighborhood K9.

The National Association to Protect Children and I are working diligently to get Alicia's Law passed in all 50 states.

“It’s a scent that as humans we would probably not even be able to detect, but dogs have a such a powerful sense of smell that they can detect literally thousands of different odors,” said Mech.

One of those dogs is named Kozak. He is one of only 30 electronic-sniffing dogs in the country right now, and he is named after a Pittsburgh woman.

The Wisconsin Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force wanted to pay homage to Alicia "Kozak" Kozakiewicz, who survived a harrowing kidnapping 17 years ago. Kozakiewicz was lured from her home in Pittsburgh by an internet predator who held her captive in his Virginia home for several days, torturing her.

“Alicia’s a warrior and it was an honor to name our dog after her,” said Special Agent Tami Pawlak.

Two years ago, Wisconsin passed Alicia’s Law. It gives law enforcement more power and funding to track down internet sex predators. Kozakiewicz, who works alongside the group Protect to pass Alicia's Law, led the crusade.
