In the 1970s and 1980s, a scandal was brewing in the Boston diocese of the Roman Catholic Church. Cardinal Bernard Law, portrayed by Christopher Plummer, defends his actions and refuses to resign. Meanwhile, Father John Geoghan is convicted and sentenced to 10 years. Attorney Mitchell Garabedian, played by Ted Danson, risks his career to take legal action against the Church, which is accused of covering up long-standing misconduct involving clergy members.
