Behind the Scenes: Start to Finish Departure of the Saltie Mamry

Описание к видео Behind the Scenes: Start to Finish Departure of the Saltie Mamry

Departing from Superior’s freshly reopened Viterra Elevator dock, the Mamry set sail for Europe with cargo holds full of wheat. This dock hasn’t been used until now this season following a transition from beet pulp pellets to wheat. It was an 8 month, multi-million dollar project to clean and reconfigure the elevator from the notoriously messy product that had been stored there for decades. Mamry was the first vessel to use the dock since the transition, taking about a week to load. As fortune would have it, I just happened to be over right next to her, looking at Michipicoten in dry dock when they radioed the bridge that they were leaving! So was able to capture the entire departure process from start to finish as she dropped her lines and set sail for the lift bridge. Following a short resupply stop in Montreal, she will continue on and cross the Atlantic before unloading her grain somewhere in Europe. Arriving in the distance is the Dutch saltie Beatrix, which went to the anchorage area to wait rather than arriving through the Canal.

The Mamry is a Lake Class vessel built in 2012 for the Polish Polsteam company. She measures 622ft long with a carrying capacity of 30,200 tons.

Note! I’m currently on vacation so will not be responding to comments. I did however set up a few videos ahead of time and scheduled them to release automatically throughout the week for your enjoyment!
