Should Transformers Have Removable Faceplates?

Based on the tradition of Japanese Samurai Armor, Transformers like Optimus Prime and Soundwave have always been recognizable with their faceplates. In the cartoon they used to go up and down when the spoke. But recent media had depicted them as having their faceplates be removable. The question is, SHOULD they?
