I recently picked up this Electro-Harmonix Attack Decay pedal. It's basically a reverse tape delay simulator, but it lets you do some really crazy "volume swell" effects. One of my favourite settings was this one, which makes the guitar sound like a cello! Plus, because it's analogue, the tracking is very good across the full range of the fretboard - you can even play chords!
