Thumb pianos are what I made all the kids for Christmas this year. I had fun making them, but tuning them was altogether another matter. The tines were made by cutting up an electrician fish tape, heating up the ends with a propane torch and flattening the end with a hammer. The fret is a piece of 1/8th inch round brass rod. I have a piece of felt under the main steel bar that holds down the tines to help keep buzzing to a minimum.
