The Brooklyn White is a cold-hardy, productive fig prized for its rich, complex "honey-berry" flavor. Originating from an Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, it is one of the most reliable light-skinned fig varieties for colder climates.

Flavor and texture
A unique flavor profile: Unlike many white figs with a simple honey flavor, the Brooklyn White is consistently praised for its notes of honey and strawberry or fruit punch. Some find the flavor to be deep, rich, and intense, while others describe it as a more subtle "Adriatic-lite". The flavor can be less intense if the figs ripen in cooler or rainy weather.

Pleasant interior: The inner flesh is soft and juicy with a jam-like texture when fully ripe. The tiny seeds add a slight crunch.

Sap and stickiness: The figs can be sappy and sticky, particularly when ripening. The amount of sap from the stem can indicate a fig's ripeness.

Growing characteristics
Excellent cold hardiness: The Brooklyn White is known for its ability to produce fruit even after dying back to the ground in a hard winter, making it a favorite for growers in northern climates.
High productivity: The trees are vigorous and are known to bear a respectable-sized breba (early) crop, followed by a large main crop. Some growers have found them exceptionally prolific.

Large, eye-catching fruit: Figs are typically large and have bright, yellow-gold skin with a light red or pink interior. Not in the case of this video since this is a one year in ground fig.

Early-to-midseason ripening: The main crop is generally considered a mid-season fig, though its ability to ripen well in cooler temperatures makes it a standout choice for the north. In my growing zone 7, they ripen a litter later so around the first few days of September.
