The Buddha Temple Complex, or the Mindrolling Monastery, was initially established in Clement Town, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, by Khochhen Rinpoche in 1965. It is said to be one of India's most prominent Buddhist centres, located in the serene foothills of the Himalayas.

The Mindrolling Monastery is well-known for its picturesque surroundings and the grandeur it exudes through its exquisite Japanese-style architecture. You can spend a few moments enjoying and admiring the wall paintings that showcase the life of Lord Buddha, regale at the tall statue of Buddha, and visit the Great Stupa that adds to its charm.

The Great Stupa was inaugurated in 2002 and is one of the main attractions. Its height is 220 feet and has a width of 100 square feet, making it the largest Stupa in Asia.

The monastery has five floors with statues of Lord Buddha and Guru Padmasambhava. The ornate gold colour wall paintings on the first three floors and the open platform offering a 360-degree view of the entire Dehradun valley on the fourth floor speak volumes of the exquisiteness of the place. The splendid greenery surrounding the monastery and the beautiful gardens near the bookstore stocked with Tibetan books give a scenic view.

Rigzin Tendak Lingpa constructed this monastery in 1676. It was then re-established by Khochhen Rinpoche in 1965 with the help of fellow monks.

The main aim of the Buddha Temple Complex is to protect the cultural and religious understanding of the Nyingma School of Buddhism. This school is said to be one of the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism. Sakya, Kagyu, and Gelak are the names of the other schools.
