king of ghazals ustad mehdi hassan sings a thumri in a private mehfil.
this private mehfil was held in vancouver canada in 1977 at the residence of former pakistani play back singer salim raza (jaane baharan fame).
salim raza migrated to canada in the 70's where he opened a music school in vancouver.
he was a very good friend of khan sahib mehdi hassan.

"Qadra sahib,
many thanks for seasons's greetings & sending me such a
precious thumri from Ustad marhoom.
it is certainly from one of the seven existing styles i.e
Dhurupad, Dhammar, Sadra, Khayyal,Tappa,Tarana,Thumri, now, this one is marvelously mixture of khayyal in Khamaaj
thaat ( there are 10 priciples scales ( thaats; Vilawal, Kalyan,
khamaj, Bhairon, puvi,marwa, kafee, Asawari, bhairavin & Todi ).
Khan Sahib's ability was such that he could use dadra
thumri giving it a full length raaga look !"
